The action of Zeez Shaheen, the young Syrian boy, in enlisting in Co. K is a worthy example of this estimable race, so many representatives of which have come to America to make it their future home, where freedom is the watchword and the right of all. Mr. Shaheen enlisted in Company K, First Louisiana Infantry, at the time of declaration of war and is now passed the rookey stage of service. He spent a few days recetnly at home on furlough, having now returned tohis duties at Camp Nichols. Shaheen says that he is delighted with the army life. He says that he is proud of Company K and the entire regiment, that he likes his officers and urges all Lake Charles young men to join this organization. Mr. Shaheen, while in Lake Charles on furlough, was very agreeably surprised by a donation of $10 made by Michel Lelieu to be carried back to Company K for use in providing such extras as the comany desire.
